About Us

The Toronto Golden Jets water polo club was created in January, 1980, the brainchild of two-time Olympian George Gross, Jr. who was born and raised in Toronto.

Originally, the Golden Jets club was a senior men’s program that skyrocketed into the championship final each year in its first four full seasons, winning the title once. An early accomplishment featured club founder Gross Jr. winning both the Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Coach awards at the same National Championships (1981, Edmonton) – the only time the feat was ever accomplished.

Three Golden Jets players (Gross, Jr., Geoff Brown and John Anderson) represented Canada at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Goalie Bryan Robertson just missed out on selection but spent a decade and a half as Canada’s starting goalie.

A senior women’s program was added in 1982.  In 1991, three Golden Jets players (Karen Gibson, Karen Morrison and Heather Smith) represented Canada at the World Aquatic Games in Australia and won a silver medal.

In the mid 80s, the Golden Jets introduced age group programming and the club went on to win the first five years of the Ontario Provincial Overall Club Points trophy.

After the turn of the century, the Golden Jets Senior Men made it to the gold medal game at the National Championships an astonishing 13 of 17 years, once winning the final by 10 goals without the benefit of any current or former national team players.

In 2025, the Golden Jets Senior Women’s program will implement the first ever NCAA competition program involving a Canadian club. It will feature three months of games against NCAA Division1, 2 and 3 schools. The first season will consist of 25 games.

As times change and sport evolves, the Toronto Golden Jets water polo club continues to adapt and find unique ways to provide high performance opportunities to its members.
