The Toronto Golden Jets senior women’s team competed as one unit during the first weekend of NCL play in January and finished third in the nine team tournament.
Then, Head Coach Evan Price decided it would serve all the players better to get more playing time which would be the case after splitting the Jets squad.
The Jets Gold team began the day with only one sub due to work and school commitments but was still able to dominate Ottawa Red to the tune of 18-6. The game was basically over at the half as Toronto led 13-2.
Sarah August, Josie Andrist and Devon Lynch all had hattricks to lead the scoring. Ava Stimson, Amy Pearce, Leanne Bolstad and Brittany Sinclair each scored twice while Hannah Levin added a single.
With a couple of more players available for the night game against Saskatchewan, the Jets Gold team got out to a 4-3 half time lead which they increased to 7-4 entering the final frame.
However, everything went wrong and the visitors roared back with a 5-1 quarter to edge the Jets Gold 9-8.
Tyanna Supreme paced the Jets attack with a pair of goals. Six different players tallied once: Julia Mic, Bolstad, Lynch, Levin, Andrist and Sinclair.
The team will face Montreal Touski on Saturday morning to complete the round robin phase.
The Jets Navy team also began the day with only one substitute. The visiting Ottawa Black team had little difficulty in winning 11-4.
In the second game, the Jets Navy team had to face the powerful Montreal CAMO squad. CAMO won handily 15-4 as two Jets starters fouled out by half and the team had to play minus a player for the rest of the game.
Suzie Chappuie and Kriya Vohra each scored twice for the Jets Navy who will face Montreal Tiburon to complete the round robin phase.
