The Toronto Golden Jets senior men’s Gold team produced two impressive victories to open the 2026 NCL season on Friday at the Pan Am pool in Scarborough.
In the morning, the Jets Gold team opened the league with a 16-6 win over Hamilton 2.
It was a blistering 6-1 opening quarter and 6-2 second quarter that paved the way to a 12-3 halftime lead. The second half was much closer with the Jets winning the half 4-3.
Adam Mekni had a big game scoring six goals while teenaged center forward Ivan Khramtsov piled in four of his own. Sukhmun Hare and Cameron Hexter each notched a pair with single markers going to Alex Leblanc and Euan Scofield.
Just like the Jets senior women’s team, the Jets senior men’s Gold team found itself playing for first place in Pool B against Team Saskatchewan.
The first quarter was a sloppy affair for the Jets who found themselves down 4-3. Toronto then started to gain a little momentum and tied things up 7-7 at the half.
In the third period, the Jets won 4-2 to carry a two goal lead into the fourth quarter. With a couple of key Team Sask players fouled out, the Jets took control, eventually winding up on top 15-10.
Scofied led the Jets Gold scoring with four goals. Hare and Mekni each netted a hat trick. Mike Chapman, Diego Gonzalez, Sam Madadian, Leblanc and Khramtsov all scored once.
Goalie Barbod Rouzbahani was very strong registering a dozen saves including a penalty shot and two steals.
The Jets Gold will play Saturday in Group 1 against CAMO and Hamilton 1, the winners of Pools A & C respectively.
