Water Polo Canada (WPC) announced earlier today that the National Championship League (NCL) would be transitioning to a series of Open National Championship events rather than the traditional league model for the 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although WPC feels that this transition is best for the 2021 season, WPC does plan to return to the regular NCL format next fall for the 2021-2022 season.
Water Polo Canada’s objective is to host the following events between May and July 2021:
Hopefully everyone has been safe and healthy throughout the past five months.
An email will be coming with a few days with the latest update on what is happening beginning in September.
Due to the virus, UofT and high school pools have been shut and remain closed until the first week of September.
While the email coming out in a few days will detail some information, it will be incomplete due to the fact the clb has not been given answers as to pool availability, type of practice allowed, etc

in this crazy time, all the coaches and executives at the Golden Jets are hoping every member and his/her family is safe and healthy AND doing the right thing by following the federal and provincial social distancing guidelines.
Some members have enquired about workouts to do at home. Actually, we would have sent suggestions of specific things to do AND suggestions of web sites with videos to follow. HOWEVER, we were prevented from doing this due to the WPC insurance situation.
Below you will find the amended clause of the WPC insurance policy relating to home training until September 20, 2020. The process is very clear.

In consideration of premium charged it is understood and agreed that the Description of
Operations is amended to include Online Training until September 30, 2020 as per the following
terms and conditions:-
WATER POLO CANADA is permitted to conduct online classes in flexibility, strength &
conditioning only under the following restrictions:
• All instruction is to be carried out by a registered WATER POLO CANADA certified
coach
• All individuals participating must be registered WATER POLO CANADA members and
must be recorded by the coach
• Publicly-accessible broadcast tools such as Facebook Live, YouTube, etc. and pre-recorded videos are not acceptable methods of delivering online training
• Permitted delivery tools must include the use of controlled, multi-screen video conferencing programs such as Skype or Zoom (ZOOMUS)
• All injuries are to be documented
• Instructors must advise WATER POLO CANADA in writing before the class and include the following information:
1. Date and time of the course
2. Instructor and instructor’s remote location, bearing in mind facilities are closed
3. Class Content (activities to be conducted)
4. Number of Participants (ensure all participants are WATER POLO CANADA members before the start of the session)
5. Class is limited to the number of participants that can be viewed on a single screen and no more than four (4) participants in one location while following the Provincial Physical Distancing Guidelines
6. Participants must have signed WATER POLO CANADA required Waivers and Consent Forms

The Toronto Golden Jets U19 boys players got their first taste of action this year at the 2019 K-W Winter Classic event last weekend.
The squad was comprised mostly of players not in the top unit of the team that will compete in the national league (NCL).
The Jets opened with a strong 15-6 win over Southwest. That win was followed by a close one goal loss to the Mavs. On the last day, the team only fielded 9 players due to the snow storm and lost 12-8 to the Shadow.
The team’s leading scorer throughout the tournament was Sebastien Nisker who averaged 5 goals a game.
Next up is the opening NCL tournament this weekend at Markham’s Pan Am pool.
With training for the age group part of the Golden Jets having just started and the senior teams not yet training regularly, the club placed four different line-ups in the water to play games at the University of Toronto Fall Classic.
First up, the Jets senior men had their first ever meeting against the United States Military Academy (ARMY). Army was making its first ever appearance in Canada.
The Jets jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and finished the first quarter ahead 3-1. Then the Jets players’ experience kicked in as the team ran off a 6-0 second period. The final two quarters were low scoring affairs with the Jets winning both by a goal (2-1, 3-2) to win 14-4.
Rudy Despaigne led the way with a hat trick while Tuna Tali and David Rapoport each netted a pair of goals. Sukhmun Hare, Paul Spooner, Emirhan Ozdemir, Petar Kovacevic, Dusan Lazarevic and Kane Law added singles.
The next day, the Jets U19s (plus one) faced off against Ann Arbor (Michigan) and came away with a 15-6 victory. The opening quarter was close as the Jets opened up a 4-2 advantage. Then a 4-0 run in the second period paved the way to a 8-3 half time lead. The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter until the Jets exploded for three goals in the last minute and a half to surge out in front 14-5.
Rapoport led all scorers with five goals. Kovacevic and Luka Pejanovic each notched a hat trick while four other added single tallies.
In the second of three matches on the day, a Jets Co-Ed line-up took on a Cleveland Co-Ed team and had its way with a 16-3 win.
The Jets ran away with things in the first quarter scoring five unanswered goals. Then, from the middle of the second period until the last minute of the game, the Jets went on a 10-0 run.
Age group head coach Predrag Pejanovic popped in two markers and eight others shared the rest of the scoring.
The third game of the day featured another game against Ann Arbor but this time the Jets Co-Ed team hit the pool instead of the U19s.
The game proved to be a thrilling one with numerous lead changes. The teams traded goals five times to be in a 5-5 tie early in the second quarter. The Jets then fell behind 11-9 entering the final frame but roared back with three unanswered goals to take the lead. Ann Arbor promptly tied things up at 12. With a minute and a half to go, the Jets found the back of the net to take the lead only to see the visitors score with one second left to leave the game in a dead heat.
Rapoport again paced the attack with a hat trick while newcomer Melchior Rochefoucauld, Leo Baotic and Sebastien Nisker all potted a pair of goals. Bora Kaya, Ahmad Wagner, Pejanovic and Law rounded out the scoring.
The tournament proved to be a great way for the Jets players from various age groups to get the feel of the ball again! Good job!
Toronto Golden Jets MVP goalie, Rachael Jaffe, just completed a great run representing Canada at the FISU World University Games in Naples, Italy.
The Toronto Golden Jets and Ottawa Titans combined forces this year to create the “Golden Titans” team to enter the U19 NCL (National Championship League). And the result was spectacular as the team won the Eastern Conference playoffs and qualified for the Final Four National Championships in Calgary later this month.
The team had significant contributions from Jets members Luka Pejanovic, Petar Kovacevic and Maksim Cuturillo. U16 All-Star Bora Kaya was also a scoring contributor and Naum Dimitrijevic and Kane Law were also part of the winning unit.
The third seeded Golden Titans opened the weekend with a quarterfinal match against Mavs DS. The team led 5-3 after one quarter and extended the lead to 9-6 by the half. Then a pair of plus 4 quarters led to an easy 19-8 victory.
Diego Gonzalez paced the attack with 5 goals while Pejanovic added 4. Bogdan Djerkovic and Kovacevic each had hat tricks. Filip Lukic chipped in with a pair while Nikola Cugalj and Cuturillo added singles.
The semi-finals match was a hotly contested and physical affair with the second seeds from DDO Black (Montreal). DDO had beaten the Golden Titans in both games during the regular season including a five goal win. The teams fought to a 2-2 first period tie and the Golden Titans edged ahead 5-4 at the half. After the break, the Golden Titans turned it on and widened the margin to 9-5 heading into the final frame. However, DDO potted 3 goals int he first 3 minutes to close to within one. A Golden Titans goal with a little over a minute remaining was the final tally in a 10-8 win.
Cuturillo led all scorers with 5 goals. Gonzalez and Pejanovic both notched a pair with Djerkovic adding the other. With the win, the Golden Titans secured a spot in the National Final Four. All that was left was to play for the gold medal and a higher seed at the Finals.
The championship final pitted the Golden Titans against the number one seed Mavs. The Golden Titans had lost both times during the regular season. The Golden Titans opened strong and jumped into a 3-1 first quarter lead. A 3-2 second period extended the lead by one to 6-3. An identical third quarter put the Golden Titans up 9-5 heading into the final period where the team cruised to a 10-7 gold medal victory.
Curalj, Cuturillo, Djerkovic and Gonzalez each contributed two goals to the cause while Leandro Velasquez and Kaya added singles.
The Golden Titans now move on to the NCL Finals in Calgary May 23-25.
